Studies on the Superoxide dismutase Activity in the Cytosolic Fractions of Thyroid Gland,Omentum and Testicle from Gammairradiated Mice





Abstract
The effects of gamma-irradiation on the changes of superoxide dismutase (SOD, superoxide superoxide oxidoreductase, E. C. 1.15. 1. 1. ) activities were investigated in the cytosolic fractions of thyroid gland, omentum and testicle from. gamma-irradiated Balb/c mice. The experiments were carried out on whole-body irradiated mice with a single dose of 400 rads. The whole-body, irradiations caused the marked decrease of the specific activics of superoxide dismutase in thyroid gland and omentum on 7th day and of testicle on 14th day after gamma-irradiations.
The enzyme activities per gram of tissues were showed the lowest levels on 21st day in thyroid gland and on 3rd day in omentum and testicle after gamma-:irradiation. The total activities of superoxide dismutase per organ of thyroid gland and testicle were decreased¢¥ on 21st day and 14th day after irradiation with the lowest levels.
